Our edited book titled “E-Technologies: Embracing the Internet of Things” has now been published by Springer. The book comprises conference proceedings from MCETECH 2017 (Multidisciplinary Conference on E-Technologies) for which I was the Program Committee Co-Chair along with my colleagues Esma Aïmeur from the University of Montreal, and Michael Weiss from Carleton University.
The book was published under Springer’s Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing series of books which pertain to business information systems and industrial application software development.
The theme for this year’s conference pertained to the ever-increasing role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the service of individuals, organizations, and businesses. The edited volume contains several papers directly tied to the of pervasive computing and smart applications. Additionally, the book features contributions related to security, privacy and trust, process modeling and adaptation, and data analytics and machine learning. The conference papers spanned a variety of
application domains such as e-Commerce, e-Health, e-Learning, and e-Justice, and they comprised a diverse scope of research ranging from models and architectures, methodology proposals, prototype implementations, and empirical validation of theoretical models.
This was my first experience managing an edited book volume, and I learned a great deal about the challenges and issues surrounding multi-author volumes. The editing tasks were quite a bit more demanding of time than I had imagined. Communicating with contributors; ensuring timely reviews from the program committee members; completing all the paperwork for copyrights and permissions; and preparing the manuscript in the required format within the stipulated timeframe to ensure availability of proceedings by the conference dates – you name it… these tasks take a lot of time and effort. Fortunately, I had a very helpful and responsive program committee to work with, and Springer’s Computer Science Editorial team was remarkably efficient. This made the process more manageable for a novice like me.
